Morning Attendance
It is essential that all students that are enrolled in our school attend school each day and are on time. School starts at 8:10 a.m. and all students should be in their classroom at that time. If your child is eating breakfast here at school, please bring them to school between 7:45 a.m. and 7:55 a.m. to allow time to eat breakfast before school begins. If your child does NOT eat breakfast at school - please do not bring them to school before 8:00 a.m. We are thrilled that kids want to spend that much extra time with us, but we don't have the ability to supervise them at 7:45 or before because of other responsibilities. We thank you in advance for honoring this request.
Excessive Absences
All absences in excess of seven (7) per semester will be considered unexcused. Absences in excess of seven will result in truancy procedures being followed as defined by Kansas Statute unless verified by doctor's order or by administrative approval. All unexcused absences will be subject to Kansas Statute on compulsory attendance.
State Statute
The State of Kansas has a compulsory attendance law for public schools. The main purpose of the law is to ensure equal opportunity for all youth to receive instruction in foundation education. Kansas statute defines truancy as any three consecutive unexcused abasences, any five unexcused absences in a semster or seven unexcusd absences in a school year, whichever comes first. School year means the period from July 1 to June 30. Students who are absent without a valid excuse for a significant part of any school day are considered truant and will be reported to Social Rehabilitation Services (SRS) if student is under the age of thirteen or to the county attorney if student is thirteen or more years of age but less than eighteen years of age. Truancy reporting will occur after notifying parent or guardian of student's failure to attend school without a valid excuse.
